Trans Loads
One of the most economical methods of getting the suppliers product from manufacture to the retailer is trans loading.
In a trans load the supplier’s products are shipped from the manufacture by sea container. Transferring the products from the sea container to a domestic truck is called a trans load. Economical because there is no storage cost at the trans loading warehouse. Occasionally, there may be some sorting or kitting that needs to take place before placing the products on the outbound trucks, but if coordinated efficiently that work can be performed during the trans load. And if effectively done, time has been saved and your products are enroute to the retailer quickly.
Cross dock services involve unloading products/goods from a truck or container directly onto another truck for delivery. Items are not put away but merely staged near dock doors to await loading. Therefore, there is little to no storage, and turnaround time between receipt and shipment is usually less than 24hours.
